1377. ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Muhammad ibn ʿUbayd ibn Hassan narrated to us; Jaʿfar narrated to us; Abu al-Tiyah said:

“Matrif ibn ʿAbd Allah used to stay out in the open country. When the eve of Jumuʿah (Friday) arrived, he would travel by night on his horse, and sometimes a light would shine from his whip. He would continue riding until, upon reaching the cemetery, he would doze while still mounted. Then I saw the inhabitants of the graves: each person was seated upon his own grave. When they noticed me they said, ‘This is Matrif on his way to Jumuʿah.’ I asked, ‘Do you recognize the day of Jumuʿah where you are?’ They replied, ‘Indeed, and we also know what the birds proclaim on that day.’ I asked, ‘What do the birds say?’ They answered, ‘They say: “Peace, peace, on a virtuous day.”’”
