- ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Ahmad ibn Ibrahim narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us; ʿAmr ibn al-Fadl said: “I asked Abu al-ʿAlaʾ—while al-Hajjaj was wrapped in a cloak—and said to him, ‘O Abu al-ʿAlaʾ, shall I revile al-Hajjaj?’ He answered, ‘Pray that Allah sets him right, for his righteousness is better for you.’”
١٣٧٦ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ الْفَضْلِ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ أَبَا الْعَلَاءِ، وَالْحَجَّاجُ فِي عَبَاءَةٍ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا أَبَا الْعَلَاءِ أَسُبُّ الْحَجَّاجَ؟ فَقَالَ: «ادْعُ لَهُ بِالصَّلَاحِ فَإِنَّ صَلَاحَهُ خَيْرٌ لَكَ»
