- ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Ahmad ibn Ibrahim narrated to me; ʿAbd al-Ṣamad narrated to us; Abu al-Ashhab narrated that he said: I heard Abu al-ʿAlāʾ say,
“When a man comes to a group and, upon seeing him, they say: ‘marḥaban’ (welcome), then a welcome awaits him on the day he meets his Lord—Exalted is He. But if, when they see him, they say to him: ‘qaḥṭan’ (may you be deprived), then deprivation awaits him on the day he meets his Lord—Exalted is He.”
