- ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; ʿAli ibn Muslim narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Ṣamad narrated to us; Bukayr ibn Abi al-Samit narrated to us, from Qatadah, regarding Allah’s words, “They used to sleep but little of the night” (Surah adh-Dhariyat, 51:17). Al-Hasan said, “They would not go to sleep until they had performed al-ʿatama, the late-night ʿIsha prayer.”
١٣٦٩ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ، حَدَّثَنَا بُكَيْرُ بْنُ أَبِي السَّمِيطِ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ – Exalté soit-Il –: ﴿كَانُوا قَلِيلًا مِنَ اللَّيْلِ مَا يَهْجَعُونَ﴾ [الذاريات: ١٧] ، قَالَ الْحَسَنُ: «مَا يَنَامُونَ حَتَّى يُصَلُّوا الْعَتَمَةَ»
