- ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Abū ʿUmar al-Azdī, Naṣr ibn ʿAlī, related to me; Rawḥ ibn al-Musayyab, Abū Rajāʾ—meaning the Kalbī—narrated to us, from Thābit al-Bunānī, who said:
Mutarrif declared, “There are people here who claim that, if they wish, they may enter Paradise, and if they wish, they may enter the Fire. May Allah cast them far away—should they ever enter the Fire!
“Then Mutarrif swore by Allah, taking three solemn oaths in full earnest: No servant will ever enter Paradise except a servant whom Allah wills—deliberately—to admit therein.”
