Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal
  1. ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; ʿAli ibn Muslim narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Ṣamad narrated to us; Bukayr—meaning Ibn Abi al-Shumayṭ—narrated to us, from Qatadah, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Muṭarrif, who said: He said to me, “You may encounter two men: one of them fasts and prays more often, yet the other is far more honored in the sight of Allah—Exalted is He—with a vast gulf between them.” They asked, “How can that be, O Abū Bahr?” He replied, “It is because he is the more scrupulous of the two in avoiding what is forbidden.”
