- ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; ʿAffan narrated to us; Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us; Thabit informed us: I heard Mutarrif say, “I walked past a gathering and heard someone praising me in fine terms. Then he said, ‘except …,’ and that word sank deep into me.”
١٣٤٠ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، أَنْبَأَنَا ثَابِتٌ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مُطَرِّفًا، يَقُولُ: " مَرَرْتُ بِأَهْلِ مَجْلِسٍ فَسَمِعْتُ أَحَدًا يُثْنِي عَلَيَّ خَيْرًا قَالَ: إِلَّا، فَأَخَذَ ذَلِكَ فِيَّ "
