1336. ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Rawḥ narrated to us; Saʿīd narrated to us, from Qatādah, who said:

Mutarrif ibn ʿAbd Allah would also say, “You may encounter two men: one of them performs more prayer, fasting, and charity, yet the other outstrips him by a wide margin.” He was asked, “How is that?” He replied, “Because one of them is more intense in his waraʿ (scrupulous piety) before Allah—exalted is He—by keeping well away from His prohibitions.”
