1316 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Razzaq narrated to us; Maʿmar informed us, from Khulaid, on the words of Allah—exalted is He—
“Fa-iṭṭalaʿa fa-raʾāhu fī sawāʾi l-jahīm”
“So he looked and saw him in the very midst of the Blaze” (Surah al-Ṣāffāt 37:55).
He said: “in its very centre.” He added: “He saw their skulls bubbling.” Someone remarked, “By Allah, had Allah—exalted is He—not caused him to recognize him, he would never have recognized him; his former good appearance and the cloak that once covered him had altered.” At that moment he (the believer) says, “By Allah, you nearly ruined me” (al-Ṣāffāt 37:56). Khulaid said: “It has reached us that when he looked, he saw their skulls boiling.”
١٣١٦ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَنْبَأَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ خُلَيْدٍ فِي قَوْلِ اللَّهِ – Exalté soit-Il – ﴿فَاطَّلَعَ فَرَآهُ فِي سَوَاءِ الْجَحِيمِ﴾ [الصافات: ٥٥] قَالَ: فِي وَسَطِهَا قَالَ: رَأَى جَمَاجِمَهُمْ تَغْلِي، فَقَالَ فُلَانٌ: وَاللَّهِ لَوْلَا أَنَّ اللَّهَ – Exalté soit-Il – عَرَّفَهُ إِيَّاهُ مَا عَرَفَهُ لَقَدْ تَغَيَّرَ خَيْرُهُ وَسَتْرُهُ فَعِنْدَ ذَلِكَ يَقُولُ: ﴿تَاللَّهِ إِنْ كِدْتَ لَتُرْدِينِ﴾ [الصافات: ٥٦] قَالَ: بَلَغَنَا أَنَّهُ حِينَ اطَّلَعَ رَأَى جَمَاجِمَهُمْ تَغْلِي "
