1309 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Sulaymān ibn Ḥarb narrated to us; Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Yūnus, from al-Ḥasan, who said:
“Al-Aḥnaf ibn Qays returned from a journey, and they had altered the roof of his house—indeed, they had painted the overhanging eaves red and green. They asked him, ‘What do you think of the roof of your house?’ He replied, ‘Please excuse me; I have not looked at it. I will not enter the house until you restore it to its former state.’”
