1305 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Bakkar narrated to us; ʿAṭṭaf ibn Khalid narrated to us; ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Qurayb narrated to me, saying:
Al-Aḥnaf ibn Qays was once told, “Abu Baḥr, we have never seen anyone more deliberate and forbearing than you.” He replied, “Yet people know that I make haste in three matters.” They asked, “And what are they?” He said, “The prayer when its time arrives—so that I may perform it; an unmarried woman when a suitable match proposes—so that I may marry her off; and a funeral when the deceased has passed—so that I may lay it swiftly in its grave.”
