1300 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Mansur ibn Bashir narrated to us; Hammad al-Ashajj narrated to us, from ʿAli ibn Zayd, from al-Hasan, from al-Aḥnaf ibn Qays, from ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). Al-Aḥnaf said: I was sitting with him when he remarked, “The ruin of this Ummah will be brought about by every hypocrite who is knowledgeable and clever. I have been watching you and have seen nothing but good; so return to your people, for they cannot dispense with your counsel.”
