1293 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said, “I read it before my father.” Ibrahim ibn Ishaq al-Talqani then narrated to us, as did al-Harith ibn ʿUmayr, from a man of Basra who said:
“It was said to al-Ahnaf: ‘Why do you never touch the pebbles?’ He replied, ‘There is no reward in handling them, nor any sin in leaving them alone. Moreover, I uphold two principles: I do not backbite a companion once he has left my company, and I do not intrude upon the affairs of people who have not included me in them.’”
