1270 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said, ʿAli ibn Muslim narrated to me; Sayyār narrated to us; Jaʿfar ibn Sulayman narrated to us; ʿAli ibn ʿAli al-Rifāʿī narrated to us; Abu al-Mutawakkil al-Nājī narrated to us, from Abu Saʿīd al-Khudrī, who said:
“When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ rose for the night prayer, he would raise his hands and pronounce the takbīr (saying Allāhu akbar). Then he would say:
Subḥānaka Allāhumma wa bi-ḥamdik, wa tabāraka ismuk, wa taʿālā jadduk, wa lā ilāha ghayruk
(Glory be to You, O Allah, and all praise is Yours; blessed is Your Name; exalted is Your Majesty; there is no deity besides You).
Allāhu akbar—three times.
Lā ilāha illā Allāh—three times.
I seek refuge in Allah, the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing, from Satan the accursed: from his whispering, his spitting, and his puffing.”
