Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal
  1. ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Numayr al-Hamadhānī told me; my father narrated to us; Hishām ibn Saʿd narrated, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from his father, from ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

I once asked, “O Messenger of Allah, did you not say to me, ‘It is better for you not to ask anyone for anything’?”

He replied, “That statement refers only to making requests of people. Whatever Allah gives you without your asking, that is sustenance Allah has bestowed upon you.”
