1255 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; ʿUbayd Allah ibn Muhammad narrated to us. He said: I heard Saʿid ibn ʿAmir say:

Someone said to ʿAmir, “If only you would go down to Basra!”
He replied, “By Allah, it is indeed the city I love. I emigrated to it and there I learned the Qur’an, yet such a move now would be nothing more than a journey prompted by desire. I regret nothing of Iraq except its sweltering noontimes and my brothers there—among them al-Aswad ibn Kulthum.”
