1251 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; ʿAbd al-Ṣamad narrated to us; Hammām narrated to us; Qatādah reported:
“The angels rejoice over winter on behalf of the believer: the day is short, so he fasts it, and the night is long, so he spends it in prayer. We have also been informed that when ʿĀmir was on his death-bed he began to weep. They asked, ‘What makes you weep, O ʿĀmir?’ He replied, ‘I am not weeping out of dread of death, nor out of attachment to this world. Rather, I weep for the thirst of the noonday fasts and the winter night vigils that I shall no longer perform.’”
