1243 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Rawḥ narrated to us; Hishām narrated to us, from al-Ḥasan, that ʿĀmir ibn ʿAbd Qays said:
“I have found that people’s livelihood revolves around four things: women, food, clothing, and sleep. As for clothing, by Allah, I do not care what I use to cover my nakedness. As for women, by Allah, a woman I see matters to me no more than a wall. As for sleep and food, they have overpowered me so that I must take something of them; yet, by Allah, I shall subject them to as much hardship as I can.”
Al-Ḥasan added, “And, by Allah, he did subject them to all the hardship he could until he died (may Allah have mercy on him).”
