1240 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; ʿAbd al-Jabbār ibn Muḥammad al-Khaṭṭābī narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Aʿlā narrated to us, from Hishām, from al-Ḥasan, who said:
ʿĀmir ibn ʿAbd Qays once overheard them speaking about how thoughts of their ḍayʿah (farmland and worldly property) intrude during the prayer. He asked, “Do you actually experience that?” They answered, “Yes.” He replied, “By Allah, for spearheads to be driven through my chest would be dearer to me than for that to happen in my prayer.”
