Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal

1200 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Abu Bakr narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from al-Walid ibn Jumaʿ, from Abu Salamah, who said:

“The Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were not people of affectation; they neither chanted poetry to one another in their gatherings nor spoke about the affairs of their pre-Islamic days. Yet if anyone pressed one of them regarding a matter of his religion, the pupils of his eyes would whirl as though he were mad.”
