1195 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Abu Bakr narrated to us; ʿAli ibn Mus-hir narrated to us, from al-Shaybani, from al-Walid ibn al-ʿAyzar, from Saʿd ibn Abi Iyas Abu ʿAmr al-Shaybani, from ʿAbd Allah who said: I asked ⦗175⦘ the Prophet ﷺ, “Which deed is best?” He replied, “Prayer performed at its appointed time.” I said, “Then what?” He said, “Honoring one’s parents.” I said, “Then what?” He said, “Jihad (striving) in the path of Allah—exalted is He.” I did not continue to ask for more, out of consideration for him.
