1159 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Muhammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us; ʿAwf narrated from Abu al-Silil, who said: Ibn Ashyam related to him:
“I was travelling on a mount through these lands of al-Ahwaz when I became extremely hungry. I could not find anyone to sell me food, and I was too scrupulous to take anything that belonged to another wayfarer.
While I was on the road—he (the narrator) thinks he said: I was calling upon my Lord, exalted is He, and beseeching Him for food—I suddenly heard a thud behind me. I turned around and saw a white cloth. I dismounted, picked up the cloth, and found inside it a dawkhalah, a sizeable bundle of fresh dates.
I took it, remounted, and ate from it until I was full. When evening fell, I stopped at a monk in his monastery and told him what had happened. He asked me for some of the dates, so I gave him a few.
Sometime later I passed by that same monk again and found beautiful, splendid palm trees. He said to me, ‘These sprang from the very dates you gave me.’ He had also taken the cloth home, and his wife would show it to people.”
