- ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Numayr related to me; his father related to us; Abū Muʿāwiyah al-Baṣrī narrated to us, from Nahshal, from al-Ḍaḥḥāk, from al-Aswad ibn Yazīd, from ʿAbd Allāh, who said:
"Had the people of knowledge safeguarded their learning and entrusted it only to those who deserved it, they would, by means of it, have risen above the people of their era. Instead, they presented it to those engrossed in worldly pursuits, and so those people belittled them. I heard your Prophet ﷺ say:
‘Whoever reduces all his worries to a single worry, Allah will suffice him regarding all his other worries; but whoever allows worldly anxieties to scatter him, Allah will not mind in which of the earth’s valleys he perishes.’"
