1145 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Hāshim ibn al-Qāsim narrated to us; Abū Muʿāwiyah Shaybān narrated to us, from Ādam ibn ʿAlī, who said: I heard the brother of Bilāl—the Prophet’s ﷺ muʾadhdhin—say:
“People fall into three categories: the one who is safe, the one who gains, and the one who is haggard.
• The safe one is he who keeps silent.
• The one who gains is he who enjoins what is good and forbids what is wrong; such a person enjoys an increase from Allah—Exalted is He.
• The haggard one is he who speaks obscenities and lends support to oppression.”
