117. ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Wakiʿ narrated to us; Kathīr ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Salamah ibn Abī Yazīd, who said: I heard Jābir say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared:

“Do not wish for death, for the terror of the first encounter (with the Hereafter) is severe. Part of a servant’s happiness is to be granted a long life while Allah affords him the grace to return to Him.”
