1138 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah—meaning Ibn Jaʿfar—narrated from Umm Bakr that Marwan summoned al-Miswar to testify when he donated his house to ʿAbd al-Malik. Al-Miswar asked, “Will the ʿAbsiyya still be maintained there?” Marwan replied, “No.” Al-Miswar said, “Then I will not testify.” Marwan asked, “Why?” He answered, “All you have done is move it from one of your own hands to the other.” Marwan retorted, “And what concern is that of yours? Are you a judge? You are only a witness.” Al-Miswar responded, “Must I bear witness every time you commit an act of impropriety?” ʿAbd Allah added, “The ʿAbsiyya was Marwan’s wife.”
