1133 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: My father narrated to me; ʿAbd al-Ṣamad narrated to us; Abu al-Ashhab narrated to us, from al-Hasan, that a man said to ʿUthmān ibn Abī al-ʿĀṣ: “O people of wealth! You spend, give charity, and perform the pilgrimage, and you certainly make us envy you because of it.” He replied, “By Allah, a single dirham that one of you earns through hardship and then puts in its rightful place is better than ten thousand that one of us receives as overflow upon overflow.”
