1124 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Ṣamad narrated to us; Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us; al-Jarīrī, from Abū al-Sawwār, that they went to Jundub while he was among the Qur’an-reciters of Basra. He said, “I observe fine conduct and a dignified bearing, yet beware of these errant passions. The one who teaches people but does not act himself is like a lamp: it gives light to others while burning itself.”
