- ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Ṣamad narrated to us; Ḥurayth ibn al-Sāʾib said: I heard al-Ḥasan say: Ḥumrān ibn Abān related to me, from ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān—may Allah be pleased with him—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “A person is entitled only to the shade of a dwelling, a crust of bread, a garment that covers his nakedness, and water. Whatever exceeds these, the son of Adam has no rightful claim to.”
