1097 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Abu ʿAmir ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr—and Abu Saʿid, whose wording agrees with his—both said: ʿAbd Allah ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, from Umm Bakr, that ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn ʿAwf (may Allah have mercy on him) sold a tract of land to ʿUthman ibn ʿAffan for forty thousand dinars. He then distributed the proceeds among the poor of Banu Zuhrah, among anyone in need, and among the Mothers of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with them).
Al-Miswar said: I went in to ʿAʾishah, may Allah have mercy on her, carrying her allotment. She asked, “Who sent you with this?” I replied, “ʿAbd al-Rahman.” She said, “The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, ‘No one will show tenderness to you after me except the steadfast.’ May Allah give Ibn ʿAwf to drink from the spring of Salsabil in Paradise.”
