1095 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Hawtharah ibn Ashras ibn ʿAwn ibn Mujashshir ibn Hujayr ibn al-Rabiʿ al-ʿAdawi narrated to me; ʿUqbah ibn ʿAbd Allah al-Asamm al-Rifaʿi informed me, from Abu Tamimah al-Hujaymi, who said:

“I heard Abu Musa al-Ashʿari, while standing on the pulpit of Basra, declare: ‘Whoever fasts perpetually (ṣāma al-dahr), Allah will constrict Hell for him in this manner.’ ʿUqbah then formed the number ninety with his hand to illustrate it.”
