1078 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Sabiq narrated to us; Malik narrated to us—together with ʿUthman ibn ʿUmar, who likewise informed us—Malik al-Maʿni narrated, from Ibrahim ibn Muhajir, from Mujahid, who said:

Ibn ʿUmar was standing in prayer when he came to the verse, “You will never attain righteousness until you spend of that which you love” (Al ʿImran 3:92). There and then, while still praying, he emancipated one of his slave-girls—whom he had planned to marry.
