1068 – ʿAbd Allah related to us; my father related to us; ʿAbd al-Aʿlā related to us, from Burd, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar: whenever something of his wealth pleased him, he would immediately set it aside for Allah—exalted is He.
Nāfiʿ said: “There was a time when, in a single sitting, he would give away thirty thousand in charity. Ibn ʿĀmir twice presented him with thirty thousand, whereupon I said, ‘I fear that Ibn ʿĀmir’s dirhams might tempt me; go—you are free.’
He would never make meat a daily fare for a whole month except when travelling or during Ramadan, and he could spend an entire month without tasting so much as a bite of meat.”
