1051 – ʿAbd Allah related to us; my father related to me; Yazid related to us; Sufyan ibn Husayn informed us, from al-Husayn, that whenever Ibn ʿUmar took lunch or supper, he would summon the nearby orphans to share his food. One day he had his midday meal and sent for an orphan, but the boy could not be found. Ibn ʿUmar had with him a sweetened drink of sawiq that he usually took after eating. The orphan arrived only after they had finished their meal, and the sawiq was still in Ibn ʿUmar’s hand, ready for him to drink. He handed it to the orphan, saying, “Take it; I do not think you have missed out.”
