- ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Ḥasan ibn ʿĪsā related to us; Ibn al-Mubārak informed us; Ṣafwān ibn ʿAmr transmitted from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Bashīr, from Abū Umāmah—may Allah be pleased with him—that the Prophet ﷺ, commenting on Allah’s words: “He will be made to drink festering water which he will gulp down” (14:17), said:
“It will be brought close to him, yet he will recoil from it; when it is finally drawn near, it will scorch his face and strip the skin from the crown of his head. And when he drinks it, it will tear through his intestines until it emerges from his backside.”
Allah, Exalted is He, also says: “They will be given scalding water to drink that will shred their intestines” (47:15); and He says: “If they plead for relief, they will be relieved with water like molten metal that sears the faces—what a wretched drink!” (18:29).
١٠٨ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عِيسَى، أَنْبَأَنَا ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، أَنْبَأَنَا صَفْوَانُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي قَوْلِهِ – Exalté soit-Il –: " ﴿وَيُسْقَى مِنْ مَاءٍ صَدِيدٍ يَتَجَرَّعُهُ﴾ [إبراهيم: ١٧] قَالَ: " يُقَرَّبُ إِلَيْهِ، فَيَتَكَرَّهُهُ، فَإِذَا أُدْنِيَ مِنْهُ شَوَى وَجْهَهُ، وَوَقَّعَ فَرْوَةَ رَأْسِهِ، فَإِذَا شَرِبَهُ قَطَّعَ أَمْعَاءَهُ حَتَّى يَخْرُجَ مِنْ دُبُرِهِ يَقُولُ اللَّهُ – Exalté soit-Il –: ﴿وَسُقُوا مَاءً حَمِيمًا فَقَطَّعَ أَمْعَاءَهُمْ﴾ [محمد: ١٥] وَيَقُولُ اللَّهُ – Exalté soit-Il –: ﴿وَإِنْ يَسْتَغِيثُوا يُغَاثُوا بِمَاءٍ كَالْمُهْلِ، يَشْوِي الْوُجُوهَ، بِئْسَ الشَّرَابُ﴾ [الكهف: ٢٩] "
