1042 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us; Ibn ʿAwn informed us, from Muḥammad, that Abū Masʿūd was approached to intercede for a man in some matter. When he later returned home, he found a gift—Ibn ʿAwn said, “I think he mentioned ducks and chickens.” He asked, “What is this?” They replied, “It was sent by the man for whom you interceded.” He said, “Take it out, take it out! Shall I accept payment for my intercession in this worldly life?”
