1019 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr al-Muqaddamī narrated to us; he said: Ismaʿil related to me, from Sinan—meaning al-ʿUsfurī—who said: ʿIkrima ibn ʿAmmar narrated to us, from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad, who said:

ʿAbd Allah ibn Hanzala reported that ʿAbd Allah ibn Salam once passed through the marketplace carrying a bundle of firewood. Someone asked him, “Has not Allah spared you from having to do this?” He replied, “Indeed, but I wished to drive away kibr (arrogance) by means of it. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, ‘Whoever harbors in his heart even a mustard-seed’s weight of kibr will not enter Paradise.’”
