104. ʿAbd Allāh reported to us; my father reported to us; ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated to us; Shuʿbah narrated from Sulaymān—meaning Sulaymān ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Nakhaʿī—from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī al-Hudhayl, who said: A companion of mine related, on the authority of the Prophet ﷺ, that he said:

“Woe to gold and silver!”

ʿUmar asked, “Messenger of Allah, after your statement ‘Woe to gold and silver,’ what do you command us to do?”

He replied, “(Seek) a tongue that remembers Allah, a heart that is grateful, and a wife who helps one toward the Hereafter.”
