Al-ZuhdAhmad Ibn Hanbal

991 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; my father narrated to me; ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿAmr narrated to us; Ismaʿil narrated to us, from Abu al-Mutawakkil, from Abu Hurayrah, who said:

“The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, gave me a portion of tamr (dates). I put it in a miktal, one of our date-baskets, and we hung it from the ceiling of the house. We continued to eat from it until its last bit was taken by the people of al-Sham when they raided Medina.”
