971 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Abū Maʿmar narrated to us; Sufyān narrated to us, from ʿAbd al-Karīm Abū Umayyah, from Ṭalq, who said:
“The most beautiful voice in reciting the Quran is that of the one who, when he recites, you can see that he fears Allah—exalted is He.”
ʿAbd al-Karīm added: “And Ṭalq was just like that.” He also related that Ṭalq said, “I yearn to stand (in prayer) until my back begins to ache.” Indeed, Ṭalq would open with Sūrat al-Baqarah and would not bow until he reached Sūrat al-ʿAnkabūt.
