960 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; al-Hasan ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAziz narrated to us; he said: I heard Muḥammad ibn Abī ʿUthmān relate—from Fuḍayl—that ʿAli used to load provisions onto several pack-camels that belonged to Fuḍayl. When some of the food he had loaded went missing, he sat down beside the camel driver. Fuḍayl came over to them and said, “Is this how you treat ʿAli? We once had a ewe in Kūfa that took a small mouthful of fodder belonging to one of the governors, or kings, or someone of their sort, and I never drank its milk after that.” They answered, “We did not know, Abū ʿAli, that it was yours.”
