8 – ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; he said: Saʿd ibn Zunbūr narrated to us; he said: Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Dukayn narrated to us, from Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad, from his father, from his grandfather, who said:

ʿAlī – may Allah be pleased with him – said, “A time will come upon the people when nothing of Islam will remain but its name, and nothing of the Quran but its written form. Their mosques on that day will be well-attended yet devoid of guidance. Their scholars will be the worst of those beneath the sky; from them turmoil will arise, and to them it will return.”
