5 – ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; he said: ʿAlī ibn al-Jaʿd and Saʿīd ibn Sulaymān narrated to us, from al-Mubārak ibn Faḍālah, from Marzūq Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥimṣī, from Abū Asmāʾ al-Raḥabī, from Thawbān, the freedman of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The time is coming when the nations will call one another against you from every direction, just as diners invite each other to a dish.”

They asked, “Will that happen because we will be few?”

He replied, “On that day you will be many, but you will be like the scum carried by a flood. The aura of dread will be stripped from the hearts of your enemies, and wahn will be cast into your hearts.” ⦗22⦘

They asked, “And what is wahn?”

He said, “Love of worldly life and loathing of death.”
