52 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: ʿAli ibn Muslim informed me; he said: Sayyār informed us; he said: Jaʿfar informed us; he said: I heard Mālik ibn Dīnār say: I heard al-Ḥasan say, “Al-Ḥajjāj is a punishment from Allah, the like of which had never been. So do not meet Allah’s punishment with the sword; rather, face it with repentance, earnest supplication, and humble submission. Repent, and you will be spared it.”
