4 – ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; he said: Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Bassām narrated to me; he said: Ṣāliḥ al-Murrī narrated to me, from Khulaid ibn Ḥassān, from al-Ḥasan, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said,

“The community will remain under the Hand of Allah and within His shelter so long as its Quran-reciters do not court the favor of its rulers, so long as its righteous do not commend its libertines, and so long as its foremost people ⦗21⦘ do not defer to its worst. When they fall into those sins, Allah Most High withdraws His Hand from them, then unleashes their own tyrants to impose a grievous punishment upon them, and finally strikes them with need and poverty.”
