43 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Suwayd ibn Saʿid narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd Allah ibn Yazid informed us, from ʿAbd al-Rahman ibn Ziyad ibn Anʿum, who said: Salaman related to me, from Abu ʿUthman al-Nahdi, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “When the trustworthy one is branded a traitor, the traitor is given trust, the truthful is called a liar, and the liar is believed, at that point al-shurf al-juruf will descend upon them.” We asked, “O Messenger of Allah, what is al-shurf al-juruf?” He replied, “Trials as dark as fragments of the pitch-black night.”
