351 – ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; he said: Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿīd related to me; he said: Ibrāhīm ibn Mahdī narrated to us; he said: Abū Ḥafṣ al-Abbār reported, from Ashʿath ibn Sawwār, from Kurdūs al-Thaʿlabī, who said: A man—right here in this mosque, the Mosque of Kūfah, whose father had been present at Badr—told me:

“I passed by a village that was trembling. I stopped nearby, waiting for someone to come out so I could ask him about it. A man emerged, and I said, ‘What news do you bring?’ He answered, ‘I left the place quaking, and the brazen sinners are crashing into one another, each one being hurled against the other.’ I asked, ‘What were they doing?’ He replied, ‘They were consuming ribā (usury).’”
