349 – ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said, “Ibrahim ibn Saʿīd related to me, saying: Saʿd ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn Jaʿfar reported to us; he said: ʿAlī ibn Thābit, from Jaʿfar ibn Burqān, from Maymūn ibn Mihrān, who said: ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said, ‘The affairs of this ummah will remain sound so long as they do not construct buildings in the style of the non-Arabs, ride the mounts of the non-Arabs, wear the garments of the non-Arabs, or eat the cuisine of the non-Arabs.’”
