333 – ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, saying: “Fudayl ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb informed us; he said: Hushaym related to us, from Mughīrah, from Ibrāhīm, on the Almighty’s words, ‘Then We sent against you servants of Ours endowed with terrible might’ (Q 17:5). He said: ‘When the Children of Israel had sown corruption in the land, Allah sent Nebuchadnezzar, who laid waste to Bayt al-Maqdis (the Temple in Jerusalem); thus “they ranged through the dwellings” (Q 17:5). Regarding His words, “And if you return, We shall return [to punishment]” (Q 17:8): they did return, so Allah turned upon them through the Arabs, who subjugated them and imposed the jizyah upon them.’
