- ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd al-Rahman b. Salih narrated to us; he said: al-Ashjaʿi informed us, from Abu Kudaynah, from Layth, who said:
"Allah revealed to a prophet from among the prophets of the Children of Israel: ‘Your people call upon Me with their tongues while their hearts are far from Me. They lift up their hands to Me asking for good, yet they have filled their houses with illicit gains. Now is the time when My wrath against them has grown intense.’"
٣٣١ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا الْأَشْجَعِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي كُدَيْنَةَ، عَنْ لَيْثٍ، قَالَ: «أَوْحَى اللَّهُ إِلَى نَبِيٍّ مِنْ أَنْبِيَاءِ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ، أَنَّ قَوْمَكَ يَدْعُونَنِي بِأَلْسِنَتِهِمْ وَقُلُوبُهُمْ مِنِّي بَعِيدَةٌ، رَفَعُوا إِلَيَّ أَيْدِيَهُمْ يَسْأَلُونَنِي الْخَيْرَ، وَقَدْ مَلَؤُوا بِهَا بُيُوتَهُمْ مِنَ السُّحْتِ، الْآنَ حِينَ اشْتَدَّ غَضَبِي عَلَيْهِمْ»
